Tiny 18-bit ADC
packs speed, precision
Device offers 400 ksamples/s in MSOP and LFCSP packages
Suited for space-constrained instrumentation applications, the 18-bit AD7690 A/D converter is offered as the first such device to deliver 400-ksamples/s in the industry's smallest leadless packagethe LFCSPenabling a 40% reduction in board space. Also available in MSOPs, the part has an SNR of 102 dB, claimed as 6 dB more accurate than the closest competing device, and dissipates 20 mW, compared to 110 mW for the competition.
Features include a DNL of ±1 LSB, a typical INL of ±1 LSB, an operating voltage of 5 V, an on-chip track-and-hold, and an optional I/O supply that ensures compatibility with 1.8-, 2.5-, 3-, and 5-V logic using the SPI-compatible serial interface. A similar device, the AD7691, is available for applications that don't have the same speed requirements or board space limitations as the AD7690. It provides a throughput of 250 ksamples/s and operates from 2.7 or 5 V. (AD7690, $19.50 ea/1,000; AD7691, $14.50 ea/1,000available now.)
