SID show provides industry snapshot
Now in its 44th year, the Society for Information Display's International Symposium, Seminar, and Exhibition* is the premier international gathering of scientists, engineers, manufacturers, and users in the electronic-display industry. Providing access to everything from high-definition flat-panel displays to the latest in OLED displays and large-area projection-display systems, the show has more than 550 booths and 7,500 attendees.
Optoelectronics
Kopin (Taunton, MA) will be showing the BDM-922K integrated binocular display module, integrating two CyberDisplay 922K color LCDs. Requiring just a 3.3-V input, the auto-NTSC/PAL device features include lenses, backlights, and drive electronics. (Booth #1615)

The TSL256x Series light-to-digital converters from Texas Advanced Optoelectronic Solutions (Plano, TX) are available in either chipscale or transfer-molded board packages. The devices can be used as ambient light sensors in keyboard illumination, display backlighting, and other light-level-dependent applications. (Booth #1539)

MicroLens-molded LED lightguides from Global Lighting Technologies (Brecksville, OH) provide increased brightness over other LED-based backlighting solutions in applications from mobile phones to desktop monitors. The guides' thinness and mechanical holding features suit them for use with COG and COF LCDs as well as display assemblies mounted directly into the host application. (Booth #501)

Signal and power
The ArtistaNET LAN controller board from Apollo Display (Ronkonkoma, NY) enables integration of TFT LCD displays into LAN/WLAN network systems without the use of a Client PC. Features include display support from 5 to 46 in. and an integrated touchscreen controller. (Booth #102)
Endicott Research Group (Endicott, NY) will exhibit a broad range of dc/ac inverters for powering CCFL-backlit LCDs from single-lamp to multilamp designs, including open frame and encapsulated versions. For example, the 0.62 x 2.87 x 0.38-in. S Series open-frame inverter offers the smallest form factor available for powering single-lamp or dual lamp LCD modules in applications such as signature capture and POS terminals. (Booth #501)

Digital View (Morgan Hill, CA) will feature the SVH-1920 and SP-1600 Professional Class line of RoHS-compliant LCD controllers. Capabilities include the ability to locally modify timing for support of new LCD panels, enable and disable video input ports and menu items, and custom menu screen presentations. (Booth #418)
A variety of flat flexible cables from Meritec (Painesville, OH) use Hirose DF-9, DF-19, and JAE FI-X connectors. The EMI shielding for the cables can take the form of aluminum or copper foil as well as a flexible silver ink coating, depending on requirements. (Booth #1246)
