National Semiconductor Introduces World's Smallest Class AB Audio Amplifier

National Semiconductor Corporation today introduced a Boomer® 1.3W mono Class AB audio amplifier in the world’s smallest micro SMD package for cell phone handsfree and ringer functions.

LM4995 Delivers Improved Output Power, Reduces Chip Size by 30 Percent

The LM4995 is a housed in a 1.25 mm by 1.25 mm, 0.4 mm-pitch micro SMD package to save space in manufacturers’ designs. This package uses 30 percent less space on the printed circuit board than existing audio amplifiers, facilitating easier layout in small spaces.

Operating on a single 5V supply, the LM4995 is capable of driving an 8-Ohm speaker load at a continuous average output of 1.3W with less than one percent total harmonic distortion plus noise (THD+N). The LM4995 offers a high power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) of 74 dB at 217 Hz and a low quiescent power supply current of 1.6 mA for longer battery life in portable systems.
