Illumination technology increases LED performance
Creating new opportunities for the use of LEDs in automotive headlamps, scientific instrument lighting, infrared military illuminators, surgical headlamps, and portable projector systems, EOS illumination delivery technology from Edmund Optics (Barrington, NJ) can direct energy from the LED chip with very high efficiency and uniformity at the target. Initial testing of the technology indicates that an LED with the EOS optical design will be at least two to five times brighter than an equivalent quartz halogen lamp.
Increasing LED brightness by driving the chip harder decreases the lifetime of the LED. EOS optical technology more effectively directs light into a tightly focused and manageable bundle of light, minimizing any thermal concerns that impact the life of the chip.
