Scopes couple high-resolution, deep-memory analog and digital channels with easy, sophisticated analysis tools

Built to simplify design and debugging of embedded systems found in everything from cell phones to avionics, each MSO4000 series mixed-signal oscilloscope (MSO) puts a real-time scope, logic analyzer, and waveform search engine in one small (5.4-in.-deep, 11-lb) ac-powered portable instrument. The sophisticated yet affordable scopes give designers the key advantage of being able to acquire both analog and digital signals, display them time-correlated on a single display, and interactively perform complex analyses of both types of data simultaneously with ease.

The family consists of four models: the 350-MHz MSO4032 has two analog inputs channels, while the 350-MHz MSO4034, 500-MHz MSO4054, and 1-GHz MSO4104 have four. The latter provides 5-Gsample/s sampling on all channels while the others provide 2.5 Gsamples/s on all channels, and all models have 16 digital channels and come standard with 10-Msample record length on all analog and digital channels.

The MSOs capture digital waveform data in two modesmain or MagniVUon every trigger and let data be viewed at any time, with acquisition running or stopped, on their 10.4-in. XGA color displays. The main mode captures 10 Msamples at a 500-Msample/s rate to provide 2-ns resolution, while MagniVu acquires 10,000 points at up to 16.5 Gsamples/s—said to be eight times faster timing resolution than any other MSO on the marketfor a 60.6-ps resolution.

Useful on all analog and digital channels, Wave Inspector tools coupled with intuitive front-panel controls make event discovery and waveform data navigation, viewing, and analysis child’s play. Automated waveform pan and zoom, user definable markers, and intelligent search and find modesas well as I2 C, SPI, CAN, and RS-232 decodingare key to this ease of use.

Bringing this ability to the test point, the P6516 digital probe has two eight-channel pods that can each probe parts up to 8 ft apart with color-coded tangle-free leads. (With one probe, from $8,700 to $17,200available now.)
