The SSR212MC2 2U, 12-disk-drive storage server is said to provide a price/performance benchmark for the small- and medium-sized business market. It uses a quad-core Intel Xeon 5300 series processor with a 1,066-MHz FSB and 4 Mbytes of L2 cache, and can be configured as network-attached storage (NAS), storage area network (SAN), or as an application server.
The unit includes support for up to 12 hot-swappable SAS or SATA 3.5-in. drives with optional hardware support for RAID 0, 1, 10, 5, and 50. It uses DDR2-533 and DDR2-677 fully buffered DIMM memory, with eight 240-pin FBDIMM sockets, has four USB 2.0 connectors (rear), and dual Gigabit Ethernet connections for fast access to iSCSI or network-attached data.
