The ST7GEM secure MCU is preprogrammed with smart-card interface software from Gemalto, and, with the addition of a few passive external components, will provide a complete smart-card reader solution. The IC’s peripherals include ISO/IEC 7816 serial host and USB 2.0 interfaces, a smart card power supply, and a card management unit with insertion and removal detection.
Available in 24-pin SO and QFN packages, the chip operates on 4.0 to 5.5 V at 0° to 70°C and has 16 Kbytes of ROM and 756 bytes of RAM. The device uses 100 µA in halt mode. ($4.50 ea/1,000—available now.)
