64-bit dual-core server processors feature low power
x86 CPUs are said to raise SPECfp_rate2006 benchmark numbers by 17% over competitive models
With what is said to be industry-leading performance per watt, the Opteron 2000 and 8000 series x86 64-bit dual-core server processors run at 3.0 and 3.2 GHz. The models 8222 and 2222 take 95 W, while the faster 8224 and 2224 models use 123 W. They are said to outperform comparable Intel processors by 17% on the SPECfp_rate2006 benchmark.
The second-generation socket F (1207) CPUs feature a HyperTransport interface with three links, each supporting up to 2,000 megatransfers per second or 40 Gbytes/s in each direction. The chips have DDR2 SDRAM interfaces running at up to 667 MHz and supporting up to eight registered DIMMs with ECC checking. They also feature an easy upgrade path to quad core devices and a common core architecture that is consistent across 1-way, 2-way, 4-way, and 8-way systems. (2000 models, $174 to $873; 8000 models, $523 to $2,140—available now.)
