Tiny dc/dc converters target portable designs

Housed in a 2 x 2-mm SON package, the 2.25-MHz TPS62290/TPS62260/TPS62240 step-down dc/dc converters support up to 1 A, 600 mA, and 300 mA of output current, respectively and can efficiently regulate output voltages down to 0.6 V with ±1.5% accuracy. The TPS62290 features an input of 2.3 to 6 V, a quiescent current of 15 µA, and an efficiency up to 95%.

The TPS62260 and TPS62240 contain the same functionality with the TPS62290 but can support a wide input voltage range of 2 to 6 V. For example, the TPS62260 can achieve a total solution size of 21.5 mm2 by adding only three additional components, including a tiny 2.2-µH inductor, a 4.7-µF input capacitor, and an inexpensive 10-µF output capacitor.
