Offered in a 0.5 x by 0.5-in footprint, the upgraded HPC series SMT power resistor features a 5-W continuous power rating in free air, using essentially the same amount of board space as typical 3-W wirewound devices. With 200- and 400-lfm air movement, the power rating improves to 10 and 12.5 W, respectively.
A new patented heat sink design reduces the number of heat sink pieces from two to one and increases the material thicknesses, while still maintaining the exact dimensions of the previous device. The device is available in values from 0.025 Ω to 250 kΩ, in tolerances down to 1%, with a typical TCR of 150 ppm and inductance of less than 2 nH. (HPC 12, $1 ea/minimum qty—10 weeks ARO.)
