Tiniest Class D amp boasts 2.3 W output power

UCSP-packaged device eliminates multiple external components

Housed in a 32-bump UCSP package, the MAX9796 Class D amplifier is offered as the smallest device of its kind to provide the highest output power 2.3 W into a 4-Ω load. By using the company’s DirectDrive architecture, the part’s integrated receiver and headphone amplifiers produce a ground-referenced output from a single supply, thus eliminating the need for large, dc-blocking capacitors.

The MAX9796 used active-emissions-limiting (AEL) circuitry and spread-spectrum-modulation technique to reduce EMI and eliminate the output filters typically required by Class D amplifiers. Features include efficiencies up to 79%, a fully differential architecture, a full-bridged output, and comprehensive click-and-pop suppression. (From $1.67 ea/1,000—available now.)
