High-performance codec integrates power management

Device saves up to 25% of BOM cost and halves footprint space

The WM8350 AudioPlus codec integrates a hi-fi audio codec and power management subsystem inside a 129-pin BGA package. Compared to using separate codec and power management chips (typically two or more components), the part is claimed by the company to save up to 25% of the BOM cost and 50% of the board footprint.

The device also integrates a clock generator, six dc/dc converters, four 150-mA LDO regulators, a battery charger, two white-LED drivers, and an auxiliary A/D converter. Specifications include a 98-dB SNR and 90% power efficiency and 2-MHz switching frequency for the dc/dc converters. Each of the LDO regulators provide a programmable output voltage that can range between 0.9 and 3.3 V in 50- or 100-mV steps. (Contact company for pricingsamples available now.)
