Integrated regulators shrink silicon footprint, improve efficiency
Synchronous buck regulators offer low-profile for backside PCB mounting in data center applications
The IR38xx SupIRBuck family of wide input, single output synchronous buck voltage regulators suits high-density high-performance data center applications. The regulators integrate synchronous buck control ICs and HEXFET trench technology MOSFETs in a 5 x 6-mm power QFN package, shrinking the silicon footprint, and offering 8% to 10% higher full-load efficiency than monolithic ICs.
The regulators have a scalable common footprint, enabling designers to reduce risk and enable faster-time-to market. Designed for 4, 7, and 12 A of output load current at 600-kHz switching frequency, they operate from an input voltage range between 2.5 and 21 V and provide output voltage as low as 0.6 V.
Common features include prebias startup, hiccup current limit, thermal shutdown, and precise output voltage regulation. Optional features include tracking, programmable power good, and 300-kHz switching frequency to provide an additional 2 A of output-current capability. The 0.9-mm profile allows mounting on the backside of the motherboard, suiting the devices for space-constrained high-density server applications.
