USB connectors integrate EMI, ESD filters

Replace standard types in space-starved sensitive high-speed applications

The industry’s first USB connectors to integrate EMI and ESD filters into a standard USB package, the Series USB-F and USB-E provide a space-saving solution that meets the USB 2.0 specification for EMI and ESD protection—ever more challenging as less space is available for components. The connectors are drop-in replacements for standard unfiltered USB connectors and can also eliminate the need to redesign PCBs in the event of noncompliance during either EMC or ESD testing.

Specifications for both versions include: a rating of 1 A at 5 Vdc, 30 mΩ max contact resistance, and a capacitance of 100 pF. For the USB-F, dielectric withstand voltage is 125 Vdc and common-mode impedance is 90 Ω ±25% at 100 MHz, while the USB-E features a reverse standoff voltage of 5 V and a reverse breakdown voltage of 6 V.
