EM Microelectronic (www.emmicroelectronic.com) has become an associate member of the Near Field Communication (NFC) Forum, a nonprofit industry association advancing the use of NFC technology. The forum (www.nfc-forum.org) is a global standards development and advocacy group dedicated to advancing NFC technology, educating the public about its benefits and furthering its implementation around the world.
Simcom Wireless (Shanghai, China), a provider of wireless communication module solutions, and eDevice announced their partnership to provide the market with powerful GSM/GPRS modules with AT# Internet Interface. This collaboration resulted in the availability of eDevice’s packaged TCP/IP solution, including integrated e-mail (POP3/SMTP) and FTP clients as well as TCP and UDP sockets, in SIM305 and SIM345 modules manufactured by Simcom Wireless. For the first time, a quad-band GSM/GPRS module will offer AT# commands, making it easier for OEMs to integrate TCP/IP-enabled wireless connectivity.
0.16-mm HV technology
Malaysia-based wafer foundry Silterra Malaysia announced the release of a 0.16-mm high-voltage technology for display driver applications targeting high-resolution TFT panels used in mainstream and high-end mobile devices. It offers the proven 3.17-mm2 SRAM bitcell, suitable for the high-density embedded-memory design in display drivers for QVGA (240RGB x 320) and WQVGA (320RGBx432, wide-quarter-VGA) TFT panels. This SRAM bitcell offers 20% total die area reduction over existing high-volume display drivers based on today’s 0.18-μm technology. The standby current performance meets TFT panel requirements, which is 25 μA with 1.38 Mbits at 85C.
