The OMAP3440 is said to be the industry’s first ARM Cortex A8-based mobile device applications processor with full HD camcorder functionality. It gives users the ability to record HD video and view applications enabled by the large displays in the latest smart phones and mobile Internet devices.
The chip uses the IVATM multimedia accelerator to support 720p HD video record and playback—including playback on an HD television at home. An open-source Linux package is offered, along with a board support package and a low-cost development kit. (Contact company for price—samples available 2nd qtr.)
