AFE enables sharper images in portable ultrasound systems
Offers 50% smaller size, 20% less power consumption, and 40% less noise than existing solutions
Addressing the specific needs of the portable ultrasound market with nearly 50% space savings, the 15 x 9-mm AFE5805 analog-front-end (AFE) decreases power consumption by up to 20% with 122-mW/channel power efficiency and offers 40% less noise than its closest competitor. The AFE’s low noise figure of 0.85 nV/√Hz at 2 MHz enables superior image quality and a performance suitable not only for portable equipment, but also for high-channel-density midrange ultrasound systems.
Housed in a 135-pin BGA package, the device integrates a voltage-controlled attenuator, a programmable gain amplifier, a low-pass filter, eight channels of an LNA, and a 12-bit 50-Msample/s ADC with LVDS data outputs. ($75 ea/1,000samples and evaluation modules available now; prod qty, June.)
