Tiny temp/humidity sensors fit on small boards
Using a capacitive sensing technique, devices offer high reliability, fast response, easy swap-out
The UPSICAP series ambient temperature and humidity sensors measure a mere 9 x 8 x 1 mm, yet have a wider operating range and higher accuracy than previously available devices. The sensors, which are fully interchangeable without recalibration, have passive elements that vary their capacitance with humidity and their resistance with temperature.
The devices can operate from 90º to 85ºC and 0% to 100% RH, and condensation and water immersion have no effect on their accuracy (humidity linearity error 1.5% RH, temperature conformity error 0.2°C) or response time (0.25 s). Humidity is indicated by a frequency output that varies from 5.8 to 7.2 kHz, and temperature is indicated by an NTC resistance, platinum sensor, or linear voltage output using less than 1 mW.
The sensors employ MSS bi-face technology, a patented four-layer construction which is said to lower production cost and offer excellent long-term stability. For stability and accuracy, the capacitive humidity cell is integrated on the active substrate´s upper side and the digital output on the reverse side.
Units are available as pinned components or housed modules with Molex milli-grid sockets and digital output. Versions are also offered for humidity only, and with 4 to 20-mA output for humidity and temperature. (From
