Greenhouse gases at wireless show

Eltek-Valere says that during the three days of CTIA Wireless 2008, the wireless industry emitted 32,000 tons of greenhouse gases and 41 million kWh of power – and up to 15% of that will be wasted. More than 5 billion kWh are consumed annually by the U.S. wireless industry, resulting in the release of nearly 4 million tons of CO2 .

The company says that next-generation high-efficiency technologies can reduce waste energy more than 50% when compared to current generation products. For more information on what they think can be done, go to www.eltekvalere.com.

APEC attendance up — again

Attendance at APEC, the Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition, set attendance records again. This past February the attendance was 2,698 people from 37 countries. It’s no wonder the show keeps getting bigger because the committee keeps finding ways to get everyone involved.

They have sessions that cover a wide range of topics but there are also ones that are on the minds of the engineers, like energy efficiency, advances in electric drives, portable power, and even sessions on patents. Keep up on what’s going on with APEC at www.apec-conf.com.
