First 3.3-V dual SCART solution saves power in set-top boxes, A/V receivers
Tiny part reduces component count while reducing power consumption by 9x over the competition
Suited for set-top boxes and A/V receivers that have two SCART connectors, the MAX9598 dual SCART solution is offered as the first to operate audio and video circuitry from 3.3 V, while only requiring 12 V for the slow-switching signal (competing dual SCART devices require 5 and 12-V supplies). Consuming only 70 mW, it is also claimed to enable up to 9 times reduction in power consumption, when compared with competing parts.
The device uses DirectDrive technology (an architecture that eliminates the dc-blocking capacitor) to prevent click-and-pop noise and eliminates the need for costly AC-coupling capacitors on the audio outputs. It integrates standard-definition video filters on all video encoder inputs, and all audio drivers deliver a full-scale (2.0 Vrms, min) output.
Controlled through an I2 C-compatible interface, the MAX9598 fully complies with the EN50049-1 SCART standard. Housed in a TQFN package, it also integrates input-video-signal and video-load detection circuitry. (From $1.50 ea/1,000—available now.)
