Zytronic highlights latest Projected Capacitive Technology (PCT) touch sensor products for large form factor and point-of-presence applications
Zytronic is using its booth (# 654) at the Society for Information Display (SID) Exhibition 2008 to showcase a combination of interactive touch sensor solutions for large form factor display technologies including rear-projection. All of the products currently included in Zytronic’s expanding range of touch sensors use the company’s patented Projected Capacitive Technology (PCT) to enable robust and versatile user interfaces.
Headlining at the booth is the next generation of the flexible touch-sensitive product, ZYPROFILM®, which by fixing directly to the rear of a store window, allows passers-by to interact with the displayed image by touching the window from the outside. The sensor detects user inputs from behind up to 20mm of glass, thereby allowing the store window to become a truly interactive user interface able to communicate offers, collect responses, and conduct various transactions. These can include requests for information and placing of orders, allowing retailers to interact with customers at street level on a 24-hour basis, even outside normal trading hours.
ZYPROFILM’s newly integrated electrostatic front face allows the sensor to be easily affixed to the glass in under 20 minutes, allowing fast, non-invasive installation as well as removal without requiring any making-good or re-glazing. Additional advantages include easy and low-cost transportability, as the film can be rolled and packed in cardboard tubes for transit.
Supporting screens up to 82-inches in size, ZYPROFILM is also suited to applications beyond retail, including travel centers, airports, cinemas and theatres, and other entertainment venues.
Having recently introduced and expanded the capabilities of the large form factor PCT products, visitors to the stand will also be able to find out more about Zytronic’s recently introduced 64 input PCT controller which offers greater flexibility for the constantly increasing range of LCD types. The controller enables touch detection commensurate with Zytronic’s 32 input PCT controllers through up to 10mm of glass for screen sizes now up to 82-inches. Further advantages include superior palm rejection, which enhances operation in applications such as table-top self-serve systems in bars or restaurants.
The controller’s 64 inputs can be independently configured to monitor touch sensors scanning either the horizontal or vertical axis, allowing integrators to configure the touch sensor for any aspect ratio including wide-screen displays.
All of Zytronic’s PCT controllers are easily integrated with PC-based host equipment, featuring either RS232 or USB interfaces for data and power, and providing drivers for popular desktop and embedded operating systems. These include Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows CE, as well as popular Linux releases. Open interfaces also enable users to develop custom drivers to meet unique application requirements.
Further features include off-glass mounting with zero insertion force (ZIF) connections to the flexible tails from the PCT glass sensors. This allows developers to satisfy a wide range of applications and configurations. The controllers are compatible with all glass based Zytronic PCT sensors including ZYTOUCH®, ZYPOS® and ZYBRID®.
