Dual-core Symphony DSPs target high-performance audio
Support high-definition audio standards for automotive and home
Advanced consumer audio products can benefit from the dual-core Symphony DSP56720/721 24-bit digital signal processors, which yield 200 MIPS/core using a 200-MHz clock. The chips feature an eight-channel DMA controller and operate on a 1.0-V core and 3.3-V I/O supplies.
Each processor core has 92 Kwords (24 bit) of RAM, and each dual-core chip shares a 64-Kbyte memory. Communications functions include two Enhanced Serial Audio Interface (ESAI) modules per core to transmit and receive audio data. Each ESAI module includes up to four receivers and six transmitters, master or slave. Each core has a Serial Host Interface (SHI) module that supports SPI and I2C protocols, multimaster capability, 10-word receive FIFO, and 8-, 16-, and 24-bit words.
Each core also has a triple timer module, and one SPDIF module is shared by the cores for IEC958 I/O. The DSP56720 includes an external memory manager. (From $11.21 ea/10,000 — available now.)
