Scalable PWM controller delivers flexibility

The ISL8120 is a dual-output or variable-phase PWM controller that features proprietary current sharing technology that enables multiple versions of the chip to be used in parallel for a dual-output or n-phase PWM controller solution. Each phase delivers up to 25-A output current or one dual-phase 50-A output, based on MOSFET selection.

Up to six controllers can be used in parallel to deliver a single 12-phase 300-A output. They handle input voltages of 3, 9, 12, and 24 V. In addition, the device’s gate drive voltage ranges from 2.7 to 5.5 V, featuring a low-side 2-A/4-A 5-V drive and a 2-A/2-A 5-V high-side drive. The controllers can also perform overcurrent sensing by dc resistance, RDS(on) or external sense resistance. ($4.31 ea/1,000 available now.)
