Surface-mount devices with low thermal resistance double brightness of previous versions

Housed in PLCC 4 packages with lead frames optimized to provide thermal resistance as low as 290 K/W, VLMx32 series surface-mount LEDs can dissipate up to 200 mW and so can handle drive currents to 70 mA. This allows them to have high luminous intensity: 1,400 to 2,850 mcd, or twice the brightness of the company’s previous high-intensity SMT LEDs.

Available in amber (610 to 621 nm) and yellow (585 to 594 nm), the solid-state lighting devices are aimed at a broad range of applications: automotive interior and exterior lighting (they are automotive qualified per AEC-Q101), traffic signals and signs, interior and exterior lighting, audio/video indicators and backlighting, telecommunications and office equipment, and flat backlighting for illuminated advertising, LCDs, switches, and symbols in general use.

The LEDs are made using AlInGaP technology (ESD class 2), have a half-intensity angle of 60°, and are categorized by packing unit for luminous intensity, color, and forward voltage to provide even color and brightness. Available in 8-mm tape, the RoHS-compliant devices are suitable for lead-free reflow soldering according to CECC 00802 and J-STD-020B, and preconditioning according to JEDEC Level 2a.
