Low-cost 8-bit MCUs feature USB 2.0

The PIC18F13K50/F14K50 are low-cost USB 2.0 MCUs that include I2C, SPI and USART interfaces. They also have a 10-bit 9-channel A/D converter and dual comparators with S/R Latch, for sensor inputs, and are supported by a free USB software stack and the free MPLAB IDE.

The chips can be configured to enter sleep, or any other power-managed mode, when a USB connection is not present and have 8 or 16 Kbytes of flash, 512 or 768 bytes of RAM, and 256-byte EEPROM storage. They come in 20-pin SSOP, SOIC, PDIP, and 5 x 5-mm QFN packages. ($1.32 to $1.46 ea/10,000 — samples available now.)
