Reference design yields WLAN access point

The AMCC 802.11n Enterprise WLAN Access Point Reference Design is based on a PowerPC 405EX processor. The comprehensive hardware/software kit has two key elements: the Managed Access Point Software Product (MAPS) from TeamF1, and the “Makalu” network appliance hardware platform developed by Senao Networks.

The design’s low-cost low-power 600-MHz processor supports higher-frequency radios, higher data rates, a greater number of end users, new security standards, and power over Ethernet. The kit has a 151 x 264 x 43.1-mm form factor, and the design’s flash image includes a Linux 2.6 kernel, U-Boot boot firmware, and a file system with the MAPS firmware. (Reference design kit, $750 — available now.)
