802.11n router ICs have high-performance CPUs

The BCM4716, BCM4717, and BCM4718 802.11n wireless LAN router ICs feature integrated processors and low cost. The BCM4716 single-band device (2.4 GHz) has a 300-MHz CPU. The 4717 provides dual-band (2.4-GHz/5-GHz) capabilities and a 300-MHz CPU. The 4718 has a 533-MHz CPU with a high-performance memory architecture and PCIe interface.

The chips have an enhanced 10/100/1000 Ethernet MAC and a MIPS32 74K core with 32-Kbyte I- and D-caches and a 64-entry translation lookaside buffer. They support up to three antennas and come in 339-, 368-, and 570-ball packages. (BCM4716 $13.50, BCM4717 $15.50, BCM4718 $19.00 ea/low volume — samples available now.)
