Class D amp boosts audio performance with DCR and speaker protection
Device enhances volume and clarity in handsets and personal navigation devices
Addressing the need for louder volume from the speaker in handsets and personal navigation devices, the TPA2016D2 filter-free, stereo Class D amplifier features a programmable dynamic range compression (DRC) that automatically adjusts the audio to the desired loudness range while protecting the speaker from damage at peak power levels and preventing clipping and distortion. In addition, this DRC capability frees up to 20% of MIPS in the digital signal processor for other functions.
The amplifier provides a 1.7-W per channel output drive capability across an 8-Ω load. The DRC can be programmed via digital I2 C control. For instance, users can select gains from −28 to 30 dB as well as program attack/hold/release times, compression ratios and noise threshold values.
In addition, evaluation modules with software, including user-friendly graphical user interface, illustrate the complete flexibility of DRC. The amplifier is available in a 2.2 x 2.2-mm NanoFree WCSP package. ($1.60 ea/1,000 — available now.)
