The uPD720150 USB 2.0 host and peripheral controller integrates communications functions that have required separate USB host and peripheral controller chips and features advanced power management techniques. The chip provides basic USB functions implemented in hardware and a 16-bit bus interface for connection to a variety of embedded CPUs.
The IC’s register settings enable four different configurations for the IC’s two 480-Mbit/s USB ports: one host, two hosts, one peripheral, or one host and one peripheral. The IC reduces power consumption in standby mode by completely stopping the clock when USB functions are not in use. (From $6 ea/10,000 — available now.)
