Bandpass filter is industry’s smallest

Ensures signal quality in portable communications devices

Measuring 1.0 (L) x 0.5 (W) mm with a 0.3-mm thickness, a 1005-sized thin-film bandpass filter is presented as the industry’s smallest device of its kind. The tiny device, which comprises three resonators, helps to ensure signal quality in devices such as mobile phones, WLAN and Bluetooth modules, Bluetooth headsets, and other devices.

The filter was developed using same thin-film technologies the company uses for manufacturing HDD magnetic heads. The construction features formed thin-films of copper wiring, insulation material, and dielectric material on a ceramic substrate. The Pb-free device is RoHS compliant.
