Imager combines best of video, still photography
Designed to address the sweet spot of both the digital still camera (DSC) and high-definition (HD) camcorder markets as well as the convergence of still and video in emerging applications the OV9810 image sensor combines 9-Mpixel photography with 1080p video on a single chip. Thus the imager frees engineers from having to make tradeoffs between providing high-quality still photography or high-performance HD video in their advanced designs.
The 10 x 10-mm-footprint imaging chip uses the high-sensitivity 1.75-μm OmniPixel3-HS architecture, which employs a front-side-illumination pixel, to deliver light sensitivity of 960 mV/lux-s for enhanced image capture under very low lighting conditions. The 1/2.3-in. format device can operate at 8.9 fps at full 9-Mpixel resolution or 1080p at 30 fps.
Controlled through an SCCB interface, the chip can deliver outputs in a variety of formats over a DVP or serial MIPI port. The SCCB interface also enables programming of desired on-chip image processing functions including exposure control, white balance, and defective pixel canceling and the chip eliminates image contamination issues such as fixed-pattern noise, smearing, and blooming.
