The LMH0384 3-Gbit/s Serial Digital Interface (SDI) equalizer for digital broadcast television offers what is said to be the industry’s lowest output alignment jitter — guaranteeing less than 0.3 unit intervals (UI) from 0 to 110 m of coaxial cable. The chip adaptively equalizes up to 140 m of cable at 3G rates, 200 m at HD rates, and 400 m at SD rates.
The 16-pin LLP-packaged chip supports two modes of operation for backward compatibility or advanced features and offers an active sensing features to minimize power consumption. It has LVDS drivers with programmable 1.05 to 1.85-V output common-mode voltage, along with programmable input launch amplitude to facilitate operation with external splitters. The chip typically consumes 230 mW from a single 3.3-V supply. ($21 ea/100 samples available now.)
