Smallest instrumentation amp offers lowest power
Smaller than the tip of a pencil, the AD8235 power instrumentation amplifier is claimed to be one-third the size (measuring 1.6 x 2.0 mm) and to consume half the power (drawing 40 μA) of competitive offerings. The amp’s longer battery life suits the amp for compact, wearable, home-based medical devices that improve patient comfort while providing doctors with continuous and reliable patient monitoring.
Operating on 1.8-V min and 5.5-V max power supplies, the part also features a CMRR of 86 dB (gain = 5), a shutdown current of 6 nA, a bias current of 40 pA, and a common-mode input-voltage range (4 and 1.4 V on 5- and 1.8-V supplies, respectively). The AD8235 is housed in a 9-lead WLCSP package. ($1.59 ea/1,000 available now.)
