14-bit magnetic rotary encoder suits auto apps

Designed to satisfy the stringent automotive requirements in angle-sensing applications, the AS5163 magnetic encoder IC incorporates both 27-V overvoltage protection and 18-V reverse polarity protection at its output. Features include up to 14-bit resolution on a single-wire output, an intelligent short-circuit-monitoring function, and an extended temperature range from 40° to 150°C.

The output can be configured either as 14-bit digital, 12-bit PWM, or analog. Moreover, the device can be programmed to measure a full rotational angle over 360° or a user-defined fraction of it. The AS5163 is available in a small TSSOP 14 package and operates at 5-V supply voltage. (Call company for pricing and availability.)
