Suited for applications such as mobile phones, watches, remote controls, and performance-tracking electronics, the LS013B4DN02 Memory LCD combines built-in pixel memory, high reflectance, and an ultra-thin mechanical package to provide new options for mobile display design. Currently available in a 1.35-in.2 96 x 96-pixel monochrome format, the product line will soon include additional sizes, as well as color and custom shapes (including octagonal and round).
By uniquely applying memory in each pixel, the devices save power — they consume only 15 µW when not being updated, compared to 1 mW for STN solutions — while also reducing refresh rate to 1 Hz. The device’s proprietary technology enhancements also include Polymer Network Liquid Crystal (PNLC), a reflective display technology that removes polarizers to provide high contrast and wide viewing angles in high-ambient environments. Contrast ratio is 10:1 and reflection ratio is 50%.
The 28.2 x 32.34-mm module’s 1.4-mm thickness is achieved using a two-glass design. The panel requires only a single 5-V supply, and its three-wire serial interface eliminates the need for external chips. The display color is that of its mirrored reflective plate, which can be manufactured in any shade. ($25 ea / sample qty — available now.)
