LED backlight driver halves current requirements
The ADP8860 white LED (WLED) backlight driver features ambient light sensing, a programmable register set, and fading and dimming options that, according to the company, reduce backlight power dissipation by up to 50% over traditional charge pump devices. The device is designed to operate with sister lighting management system (LMS) products, such as the ADP5520 lighting management system and ADP5588 mobile I/O expander. The driver’s configurable architecture improves ease of use by automatically detecting ambient light levels and adjusting backlighting brightness according to changing light conditions.
Featuring a parallel configuration, the single-chip ADP8860 can control up to seven LEDs — six at 30 mA max and one at 60 mA. Additional features include support for 1.7 to 3.3-V I/O operation, an I2 C inreface, and a multizone lighting capability. Housing is in 20-bump WLCSPs or 20-pin LFCSPs.
