Reliable force sensor fits small SMT package
Housed in a package measuring approximately 9.1 x 5.6 x 3.8 mm, the FSS-SMT Series low-profile force sensor has a 2 x 107 MCTF rating at 25°C and a 44-N over-force capacity for consistent output over time. Its SMT packaging permits automated assembly on a PCB to eliminate hand soldering and reduce assembly costs.
With a micromachined piezoresistive silicon sensing element and stainless-steel-ball contact point, the device measures from 0 to 14.7 N with a typical sensitivity of 12.2 mV/N and BSFL of 0.7% FSS. A 30-μm typical deflection at full scale helps reduce measurement errors, and the unit provides access to all four points of its Wheatstone bridge for design flexibility.
