Digitally programmable 5-A LDO touts lowest dropout, noise
The LT3070 digitally programmable linear regulator touts the lowest dropout voltage and noise, as well as the fastest transient response of any currently available monolithic 5-A LDO. The dropout voltage at 5 A is 85 mV, the output voltage noise at 5 A is 25 µVrms over a 10-Hz to 100-kHz bandwidth. The LDO’s 1-MHz unity-gain bandwidth, coupled with its 15-µF ceramic output capacitance, provides 30 mV of overshoot/undershoot in response to a 4.5-A output load step.
The LDO powers low-voltage high-current devices such as FPGAs, DSPs, ASICs, microprocessors, communication supplies, server/storage devices, and post-buck regulation applications. Its output voltage is digitally programmable from 0.8 to 1.8 V in 50-mV increments. The accuracy is specified at ±1% over line, load, and temperature. A digital margining feature can adjust system output voltage in increments of ±1%, ±3%, or ±5%. The input supply voltage range is 0.95 to 3.0 V, and its bias supply voltage ranges from 2.2 to 3.6 V.
Multiple devices can be paralleled for higher output current and to spread heat across a PCB. The device is offered in a thermally enhanced, 0.75-mm profile 28-lead 4 x 5-mm QFN package that operates from –40° to 125°C. (From $4.20 ea/1,000 — available now.)
