Suited for multiple electroluminescent (EL) lamps, the MAX14521E, a ±15-kV ESD-protected, quad-output driver uses an inductor-based boost converter to generate a 300-Vp-p voltage for maximum EL lamp brightness. The part features an I2 C interface for adjusting many different settings including output voltage, frequency, boost frequency, and waveform shape.
The part features an acoustic-noise-reduction circuit that controls the output waveform to reproduce sine waves, thus enabling quiet EL backlight operation. In addition, the MAX14521E allows independent control of each lamp, including individual dimming and output modulation through an audio input for dynamic lighting effects.
