The TPS51315 10-A synchronous buck converter integrates FETs and provides a 1-MHz dc/dc switcher. It features a D-CAP mode control scheme that reduces the required number of external output capacitors by 32% compared to competing devices. The converter uses auto-skip mode and light-load control schemes to help meet Energy Star/90 Plus guidelines. It suits power-dense applications in embedded PCs and notebooks, as well as base stations and network attached storage applications.
The regulator provides an input voltage from 3 to 14 V and an output voltage range from 0.75 to 5.5 V. It supports designs for 3.3-, 5-, and 12-V power systems and can power DSPs, FPGAs, ASICs, I/O and DDR memory cores. An adaptive-mode-control scheme allows less than 100-ns response time in load step transients. It is available now in a 40-pin 5 x 7-mm QFN package. ($3.80 ea/1,000 — available now.)
