Isolated RS-485 transceiver integrates isolated power

The LTM2881 isolated RS-485 transceiver module features inductive signal isolation and a low-EMI dc/dc converter that powers the transceiver and provides an isolated 0.5-W 5-V supply output. The module breaks ground loops by isolating the logic-level interface and line transceiver, allowing for a much larger common-mode voltage range plus superior >30-kV/µs common-mode transient rejection.

The ±15-kV ESD-protected transceiver operates at 20 Mbits/s (or, for low EMI, at 250 Kbits/s) in half- or full-duplex configurations, and its shutdown mode takes only 5 µA. The module’s driver maintains high impedance over the entire common-mode range and has short-circuit current limit as well as slew-rate control. The small 11.25 x 15.00-mm LGA- and BGA-packaged module needs no external components and operates from 3.3 or 5.0 V. (From $8.45 ea/1,000 samples available now.)
