The LTM4614 is a complete dual dc/dc µModule regulator system that includes inductors in a surface-mount package that has a 15 x 15-mm footprint and a 2.8-mm height. The device can regulate either two voltages from 0.8 to 5 V at up to 4 A each or one output voltage at up to 8 A by sharing current from both outputs.

The regulator’s versatility is enhanced by its ability to operate from two different supply rails ranging from 2.375 to 5.5 V (6 V max) or from one input supply by tying the input pins together. The module includes all the elements needed for a dual point-of-load regulator: inductors, capacitors, dc/dc controller, compensation circuitry, and power switches. All are encapsulated and protected within a plastic surface-mount LGA (land grid array) package.

The dc/dc regulator has ±1.5% total dc output error, which includes errors from the reference voltage as well as line-and-load regulation. The efficiency is 91% nominal and up to 94% depending on the voltage and current conditions. The device supports output voltage tracking and safety features including overvoltage and overcurrent protection as well as thermal shutdown. It has an internal operating temperature range from –40° to 125°C. ($15.50 ea/1,000 — available now.)
