Suited for handset and other portable applications, such as portable media players and laptop computers, the SSM2517 digital-input Class D audio amplifier combines on a single chip an audio D/A converter, power amplifier, and a pulse density modulation (PDM) digital interface. The PDM interface is the same digital interface supported by digital microphones in many handset and laptop applications and helps to lower overall system cost, eases board layout, and allows more freedom in industrial design for placement of loudspeaker transducers.
Features include a THD of less than 0.01% at 1 kHz, an SNR of 98 dB, and a power consumption of 2.5 W into 4 Ω and 1.4 W into 8 Ω at a 5-V supply. Housed in a 1.5 x 1.5-mm package, the filterless part offers a 90% efficiency. ($0.63 ea/1,000 — available now.)
