Low-cost FPGA family cuts power, adds high-speed transceivers
The low-cost Cyclone IV GX and Cyclone IV E FPGA families operate from 1.2- and 1.0-V supplies, respectively, and feature a 30% power reduction, compared to the previous generation. The GX series now includes up to eight 3.125-Gbit/s transceivers supporting mainstream protocols like Gigabit Ethernet, PCIe, SRIO, and XAUI. The GX series also has 14,000 to 150,000 logic elements (LEs), up to 6.5b Mbits of RAM, and up to 360 multipliers.
The smallest E series device has 6,000 LEs, 0.3 Mbits of RAM, and 15 multipliers; while the largest yields 115,000 LEs, 3,8 Mbits of RAM, and 266 multipliers. (Ea/250,000: E series, from $3; GX series, from $6 — available 1st qtr 2010.)
