3.3-V dual SCART ICs save on power

Suited for set-top boxes and A/V receivers that have two SCART connectors, the 3.3-V dual MAX9670/MAX9671 SCART ICs with audio volume control consume 70 mW during quiescent operation and 471 mW during normal operation. The parts operate audio and video circuitry from 3.3 V and only require 12 V for the slow-switching signal. An internal charge pump inverts the 3.3-V supply and generates a 3.3-V supply, thereby providing sufficient voltage swing to support 2.0-Vrms audio.

The ICs integrate DirectDrive technology to prevent click-and-pop noise and eliminate the need for ac-coupling capacitors on the audio outputs. Additionally, they integrate load-detect and activity-detect circuitry. The MAX9670 is available in a 40-pin TQFN package, while the MAX9671 is packaged in a 44-pin TQFN.
