The W7100 controller IC integrates an 8051-compatible MCU, 64 Kbytes of SRAM, and a 10/100Base-TX MAC and PHY. Targeting network-enabled instruments and dataloggers, the chip has a 32-data-Kbyte buffer with, auto-negotiation, and auto MDI/MDIX.
The IC can drive six network status LEDs and a hardwired TCP/IP stack supporting TCP, UDP, IPv4, ICMP, ARP, IGMP, and PPPoE protocols, and 64K bytes flash. The chip off-loads the Internet protocol so users can design with simple SOCKET programming and it has a pipelined 8051 core for a 4 to 5 times execution speedup. ($6 ea/500 — available now.)
