Efficient servers use up to 64 POWER7 cores

POWER7 server systems include the 750 Express, 755, 770, and 780 models. They target the most demanding emerging applications, ranging from smart electrical grids, to scientific computing, to real-time financial analytics. The Power 750 Express server has 1 to 4 sockets supporting up to 32 cores using POWER7 6-core and 8-core modules.

The Power 755 server is a four-socket, 4U rack-mounted server that offers 32 POWER7 processor cores running at 3.3 GHz. A maximum of 64 Gbytes of memory is allowed on each processor card, for a system maximum of 256 Gbytes. The systems are said to deliver four times the performance and four times the virtualization capability of competitive units, for the same price, and are also three to four times more energy efficient. (From $34,152 (Power 750 Express) available now.)
