The Xeon 7500 processors feature a threefold performance boost over previous versions, an on-die memory controller, four DDR3 memory channels, and up to eight cores and 16 threads per chip. The devices have a 12 to 24-Mbyte L3 cache and up to 2.3 billion transistors.
The series takes 95 to 130 W, and they have more than 20 new reliability features including Machine Check Architecture Recovery that allows the CPU to work with the operating system to isolate errors that would otherwise crash the machine. They support up to eight CPU sockets/system, and up to 512 Gbytes of memory in a two-socket system. ($744 to $3,692 ea/1,000 — available now.)
