The MAX17085B integrated power solution combines a multichemistry battery charger with dual PWM stepdown controllers. It suits notebooks, UMPCs, MIDs, and other portable applications in which space and component cost are critical.
The battery charger supports a 1.2-MHz switching frequency and has dual SMPSs with dual keep-alive linear regulators to supply system power in the off, standby, and alive states. The charge-voltage setting is adjustable and accurate to ±0.4%. The charge current is also adjustable by an analog or PWM input. Internal 5-V 100-mA and 3.3-V 50-mA LDOs generate always-on power supplies. Overvoltage, undervoltage, thermal, and other fault-protection features are also included.
