The OCTEON II CN6860, CN6870, CN6880 and CN6740/50/60 networking processors integrate 8 to 32 enhanced MIPS64 cores for up to 48 GHz of standard ISA-based processing. The chips have over 85 (68xx) or 60 (67xx) L3-L7 application and security acceleration engines, virtualization features, up to 12 GbE, four 10GbE, and two 20GbE Ethernet ports, and a power optimizer that dynamically adjusts power depending upon the processing requirement.
The chips have 2.5 times the control plane performance of the previous generation. They come in FCBGA1936 packages with PCIe Gen2, XAUI, double-speed XAUI, RXAUI, SGMII, and Interlaken I/Os and a 72-bit ECC DDR3 memory interface. The cores are coupled with up to 4-Mbyte partitionable low-latency L2 cache using a HyperConnect crossbar with over 6-Tbit/s throughput. ($500 to $1,000 ea./5,000 available 4th qtr.)
